LOCO BLOCO PRESENTS

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS 2024 VOLVER

The act of returning is integral to Mesoamerican rituals during Dia de los Muertos. It is believed that during this time a portal in the cosmos opens, allowing the souls of ancestors to return to visit their living relations. Families return to the graves and tombs of loved ones passed to refresh important memories and keep family cultures alive. At the same time, the concept and act of returning is transitory, filled with uncertainty and conditioned by changing contexts in families, communities and in the world. “Volver” invites participating artists to explore the personal and collective stories of returning: the reunification of families dispersed through migration, the longing of people displaced by war to return to their homeland, native languages returning from the brink of extinction, the process of passing through deep emotional currents when revisiting an ancestor.

Founded by community-based artists and activists in 1994, Loco Bloco provides THE BIPOC COMMUNITY with transformational arts experiences to foster dialogue, engagement and unity between diverse cultures in Bay Area communities. Learn More…
